Mosaicism in the alpha-like protein genes of group B streptococci.
Members of a family of repeat-containing surface proteins of group B streptococci (GBS) defined by the alpha C and Rib proteins exhibit size variability and cross-reactivity and have been studied as potential vaccine components. We report evidence of horizontal DNA transfer with subsequent recombination as a mechanism generating diversity within this antigen family. Alp2 and Alp3 are additional...
متن کاملMultiplex PCR assay for direct identification of group B streptococcal alpha-protein-like protein genes.
We developed a group B streptococcus multiplex PCR assay which allows, by direct analysis of the amplicon size, determination of the surface protein antigen genes of alpha-C protein, epsilon protein, Rib, Alp2, Alp3, and Alp4. The multiplex PCR assay offers a rapid and simple method of subtyping Streptococcus agalactiae based on surface protein genes.
متن کاملThe role of b-hemolytic streptococci group B and anearobic infections in preterm premature rupture of membrane
preterm premature rupture of membrane(PPROM)is one of the serious problems during pregnancy.the aim of this study was to determine the probable relation between group B streptococal and anaerobic infections and PPROM.for this porpust 100 pregnant women with preterm rupture of membrane were selected.in the case group the prevalence of B-hemolytic streptococcal and anaerobic microorganisms was de...
متن کاملA monoclonal antibody identifies a protective C-protein alpha-antigen epitope in group B streptococci.
Group B streptococci (GBS) are the leading causes of neonatal sepsis and meningitis in the United States, with a high rate of fatality and serious morbidity despite appropriate therapy. The C-protein antigens of GBS appear to be important in immunity to experimental infection, yet these antigens remain incompletely characterized with respect to their number, structure, and function. None of the...
متن کاملCloned alpha and beta C-protein antigens of group B streptococci elicit protective immunity.
Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococci [GBS]) is the leading cause of neonatal sepsis and meningitis in the United States. The surface-associated C proteins of GBS play a role in immunity, but their number, size, structure, function, and virulence properties have not been well characterized. A recombinant library of DNA fragments from GBS strain A909 (type Ia/C) was prepared in the plas...
